Great men of God...modern day examples part 1

So after having so many people compliment me on my last post, I wanted to expand on the thought of being a STRONG man and more importantly being a Godly man....

First, let me again give credit where credit is due...my friend and associate pastor Charlie Higgins was the person responsible for the 'STRONG man' idea/sermon. Just like the examples I want to write about today, Charlie let God speak through him to deliver the words many in our congregation and really our whole world needs to hear. I have just done what I feel God has wanted me to do by passing on the message via this blog!

So while thinking about what a STRONG man is and also while pouring over my favorite reading material, podcasts, and blogs, I came to the realization that there are some great examples out there of STRONG men whom we should be listening to, encouraging, praying for, and thanking for their living Godly lives. This is not to put these men on a pedestal but to bring to attention the impact these men have on my life as examples and on many others who know them and have experienced their faith acted out daily in their lives.

This past spring we hosted an associational Disciple Now event at our church for students. It had been an event in planning for almost a year and was a huge undertaking that I started on my own with one goal in mind. That goal was to have Dr. Alvin Reid come to speak the truth into the lives of my students. Dr. Reid is a professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. His biography is a listing of 'been there, done that, got the t-shirt' experiences that more than validate this man as a leader in the church today. However, what has always struck a chord with me is his willingness and desire to serve God by sharing with students all over the country and all over the globe. He spends countless hours on the road in his Denali, usually with 4 college students, pulling a trailer full of instruments and gear to various churches where he speaks the truth of the gospel to teenagers and parents, encouraging them to seek God in all His greatness and then to go out and share His love with everyone they come in contact. He does this probably more weekends than he stays at home...This is not part of his job as professor, he does it because the Lord has called him to it and he has answered 'Yes Lord, I will go'! He just this week announced that he will be taking on a new title at the seminary as professor of evangelism and student ministry with a new Student Ministry focus at the seminary being available! 'Doc' as he is most affectionately known by many, truly is a STRONG man, that I have been blessed to get to know and to be able to gleen knowledge from through his experiences and how God has/continues to use him. Thanks Doc for all you do and for following the Lord to all He has called you to!

I have many more examples to share and so I will have to make this post just the first installment of those. I will continue on with more later...hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Until then, keep seeking Him daily...

So here's what God's doing...

So some of you have come here for the Big Announcement from my status on Facebook.  Well I'm not trying to be mean but you will need to read through this blogpost to find out what it is...;-)  As most of you know, I resigned from my Student Minster position at Westview back in January.  There were some issues there and I was really feeling pulled by God to go back to school and finish my degree.   I want to say to anyone reading this who might still be at Westview that contrary to what may have been said or presented to you, things are not always what they seem.  I also want to say that I loved and still do love all the students I was privileged to have ministered to while at WBC.  That being said, I knew in January that my ability to minister to students within the framework and leadership of Westview had ceased to be possible and it was time for me to move forward with God's plan.  I enrolled as a full-time student at the BCF extension taking 19...

Time flies...

January 2010!  Really!?  It's been that long since I have posted on here?  Hard to believe and even harder to realize all that has changed since then.  There is so much that is different in my life since I last posted.  I am no longer the Student Minister at the church I was at...long story and maybe more to come later on that but for now just know that I resigned that position in January of 2011.  I haven't talked much about the reasons or circumstances that led to that publicly yet, and for now the official reason is that God is preparing me for something new in ministry.       Part of this preparation has been my returning to school full-time to finish my degree.  I took 19 hours this past Spring semester (received A's in all 8 classes, too! Praise God!), am taking 9 currently over the summer term and will finish the last 14 hours needed in the Fall to graduate in December.  I say all that to e...

Time

Time.... that unit of measurement that let's us keep track of how long we are doing something or when to meet at a certain place.   To runners, time is everything and discussed in terms of PR (personal record).  It determines if you are getting better or falling behind, if you need to train more or train harder, whether you win, or whether you lose. Some say time has no end and others say that time flies!  Enjoy life while you can because when your time is up, it's all over. In scripture we find this in Ecclesiastes 3, about time: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:   a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;   a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;   a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;   a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather ston...
