Great Men of God...Modern Day Examples Pt. 2

So, I have been away for several days and I apologize for the lapse...last week was an extremely busy week and I could hardly find the time to think; therefore writing was pushed way down on the list of 'to-do' that I didn't complete...sorry.
I have lots to write about though since it was such a busy week, but I first want to continue on with the thread I have started regarding STRONG Godly men. Now let me explain how I have chosen some of the men I am going to be sharing about, especially todays. I do not want, nor am I sure these men would want to be placed on a pedestal and praised for their faithful to God's plan for their lives. I also do not know personally everyone of these men, but have influenced in a personal way by either words that have been written, speeches/sermons delivered, or by the evidence of action of their lives, all lived out with the intent of following God's will. The Godly man I wish to share about today is a great example of these things.
Francis Chan is the teaching pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California. He is also an author and speaker as well as the founder of Eternity Bible College. I have had the blessing of hearing Francis speak in person a few times and can tell you from experience that when you hear him speak, you quickly realize that this is a man that is in tune with what God has planned for his life and he is allowing God to speak through him. Cornerstone Church podcasts their worship services and so many of Francis' sermons are on the web and on itunes to be viewed. Best of all they are free. I strongly encourage you to download one or two and listen to them.
Francis has also written a book entitled, 'Crazy Love' and it is at the top of my reading list of books I think not just students today, but all christians and others maybe investigating Christianity should read. In the book, Francis pushes the reader to evaluate just how much we love God and if we can possibly love Him the way that He has loved us. He defines a love that to the world would be described as 'crazy' but to God is the love he has given us and wants us to exhibit. The most resonating point in the book for all christians should be his description of how we become lukewarm in our lives and faith and how God has called us to be so much more than that. It is a great book and I wish everyone could take the time to get a copy and read it.
There are so many other examples of how Francis Chan is a Godly man...but the one that has impressed me the most is his obvious desire to be close to God. In his speeches and sermons, he is genuine and authentic about his life and his desire to be intimate with his creator. His plain spoken, everyday conversational delivery of what the Lord has placed on his heart exhibits the strong relationship he has with God. I have said before that when you see or hear Francis speak, you know God is in the room also.
In our world today that is placing importance on self and is heading for destruction, it is a blessing to know there are men like Francis Chan out there still speaking the Truth of God into people's lives and encouraging them to try something out as radical as the 'crazy love' God can give. Until next time....keep seeking Him....

So here's what God's doing...

So some of you have come here for the Big Announcement from my status on Facebook.  Well I'm not trying to be mean but you will need to read through this blogpost to find out what it is...;-)  As most of you know, I resigned from my Student Minster position at Westview back in January.  There were some issues there and I was really feeling pulled by God to go back to school and finish my degree.   I want to say to anyone reading this who might still be at Westview that contrary to what may have been said or presented to you, things are not always what they seem.  I also want to say that I loved and still do love all the students I was privileged to have ministered to while at WBC.  That being said, I knew in January that my ability to minister to students within the framework and leadership of Westview had ceased to be possible and it was time for me to move forward with God's plan.  I enrolled as a full-time student at the BCF extension taking 19...

Time flies...

January 2010!  Really!?  It's been that long since I have posted on here?  Hard to believe and even harder to realize all that has changed since then.  There is so much that is different in my life since I last posted.  I am no longer the Student Minister at the church I was at...long story and maybe more to come later on that but for now just know that I resigned that position in January of 2011.  I haven't talked much about the reasons or circumstances that led to that publicly yet, and for now the official reason is that God is preparing me for something new in ministry.       Part of this preparation has been my returning to school full-time to finish my degree.  I took 19 hours this past Spring semester (received A's in all 8 classes, too! Praise God!), am taking 9 currently over the summer term and will finish the last 14 hours needed in the Fall to graduate in December.  I say all that to e...

Time

Time.... that unit of measurement that let's us keep track of how long we are doing something or when to meet at a certain place.   To runners, time is everything and discussed in terms of PR (personal record).  It determines if you are getting better or falling behind, if you need to train more or train harder, whether you win, or whether you lose. Some say time has no end and others say that time flies!  Enjoy life while you can because when your time is up, it's all over. In scripture we find this in Ecclesiastes 3, about time: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:   a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;   a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;   a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;   a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather ston...
