Invitations to Chemistry....

The title of today's post is also the title to my wife's Chemistry textbook for a class she is taking this summer.  I find it odd that someone would 'want' an "invitation" to learn about Chemistry.  Granted I know there are people who LOVE Chemistry and God has gifted them with the required intelligence and desire to study, learn, and develop new ideas in the field of Chemistry(that whole God gifted you to do things you love is a whole other blog, also) and for them that is great.  However, if I was to receive and 'invitation' to Chemistry, I would probably 'lose' the invitation and definitely 'forget' to RSVP to that event!
This does bring up an idea that I thought enough about to blog on and that is what kind of invitations do we really enjoy and what invitations do we care less about?  Everyone, loves to receive an invitation to a party, right?  Especially birthday parties, because in general we know there will be cake and I don't know about you, but I love cake!  Even if the party is a bomb, if there is cake, I am generally happy.
We also love invitations to events.  Events like the prominent ones this time of year called graduations.  I have had previous students who have sent me graduation invitations this year to attend an important milestone event in their life.  BTW - Congrats to Emilee, Amy, Maggie, Alex, Robert, Allison, Carissa, August, Nick, Bre, Kayla, Matt, and Anna.  I am sure I missed some so if I did sorry.  Graduation is an exciting and scary time all at once and the beginning of a new chapter in life and the invitation to be a part of that is a great honor and privilege.  I often try to impart great words of wisdom on graduates at this time of year, but honestly my wisdom is rarely great except for that the best words I can share is 'trust God'.
My parents are getting  ready to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary (another blog for another time - it is a privilege to have parents who have stayed married for 50 years and I am thankful for their example) and the discussion between my siblings and I recently has been about having a party and sending out invitations to my parents friends and family to come celebrate this momentous occasion with them.  I am sure many will receive the invitation and find it to be a wonderful time of celebrating the many years of marriage and happiness my parents have shared.
Sometimes we get 'invitations' to apply for credit cards in the mail, or to join an organization or a club.  While these invitations do not necessarily illicit great joy, they can bring a sense of accomplishment or acceptance that we may have reached a level of status that we previously had not been at.
While all of these invitations can bring joy, excitement, thrills, possibilities, acceptance, pride, etc.,  there is one invitation that was delivered almost 2000 years ago that is available daily and brings freedom to any and all from the eternity in hell that we all deserve to experience.  When God allowed His one and only Son Christ to suffer not just the physical pain and suffering of being beaten violently as well as the mental anguish of being taunted and called names, but the spiritual agony of taking upon himself the entire sins of the world, including yours and mine, he delivered the greatest invitation any of us could ever receive.  That is to enter into an eternal relationship with Him, our Creator, Savior, loving Father, and Gracious Redeemer God!  The invitation hasn't been delivered in a pretty envelope with a piece of tissue paper lining or in a fancy script on delicate stationary.  NO it was delivered in the blood of Christ and the captive air of an empty tomb in the Jerusalem countryside 2 millenia ago.  It is repeated and forever written on the hearts of Christians all over the world, preached in pulpits weekly, and read daily in the pages of the Holy Scriptures.  If you've never accepted or even witnessed this wonderful invitation I INVITE you to check out the viewthestory.com

and read about the greatest invitation ever sent by God to YOU.  If after reading it, you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at kmr311@yahoo.com and I would love to talk with you about it.  Until next time....I 'invite' you to experience More Him....

So here's what God's doing...

So some of you have come here for the Big Announcement from my status on Facebook.  Well I'm not trying to be mean but you will need to read through this blogpost to find out what it is...;-)  As most of you know, I resigned from my Student Minster position at Westview back in January.  There were some issues there and I was really feeling pulled by God to go back to school and finish my degree.   I want to say to anyone reading this who might still be at Westview that contrary to what may have been said or presented to you, things are not always what they seem.  I also want to say that I loved and still do love all the students I was privileged to have ministered to while at WBC.  That being said, I knew in January that my ability to minister to students within the framework and leadership of Westview had ceased to be possible and it was time for me to move forward with God's plan.  I enrolled as a full-time student at the BCF extension taking 19...

Time flies...

January 2010!  Really!?  It's been that long since I have posted on here?  Hard to believe and even harder to realize all that has changed since then.  There is so much that is different in my life since I last posted.  I am no longer the Student Minister at the church I was at...long story and maybe more to come later on that but for now just know that I resigned that position in January of 2011.  I haven't talked much about the reasons or circumstances that led to that publicly yet, and for now the official reason is that God is preparing me for something new in ministry.       Part of this preparation has been my returning to school full-time to finish my degree.  I took 19 hours this past Spring semester (received A's in all 8 classes, too! Praise God!), am taking 9 currently over the summer term and will finish the last 14 hours needed in the Fall to graduate in December.  I say all that to e...

Time

Time.... that unit of measurement that let's us keep track of how long we are doing something or when to meet at a certain place.   To runners, time is everything and discussed in terms of PR (personal record).  It determines if you are getting better or falling behind, if you need to train more or train harder, whether you win, or whether you lose. Some say time has no end and others say that time flies!  Enjoy life while you can because when your time is up, it's all over. In scripture we find this in Ecclesiastes 3, about time: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:   a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;   a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;   a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;   a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather ston...
